PROMOTING SUSTAINABILITY IN THE OUTDOORS WITH LEAVE NO TRACE & EUREKA!

In 1895, in a workshop in Binghamton, New York,  Eureka!, a member of the Johnson Outdoors family of brands was born. In the 1970’s, new owner Sam Johnson, a heralded environmentalist, ignited the spirit of adventure and a new love for the outdoors that Eureka! was proud to stand behind becoming a company that inspires people to not only experience the awe of the great outdoors but to work together to preserve it. A perfect example of Eureka’s forward thinking and environmentally conscious philosophy is their partnership with the Leave No Trace Center For Outdoor Ethics (LNT).

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics main focus is on care, responsibility and stewardship for the outdoors. The Leave No Trace Center engages with a range of partners from federal land management agencies and companies within the outdoors and conducts research that directly impacts public lands and the general public as a whole. Instead of costly restoration programs or access restrictions—The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics focuses on educating people as the most effective solution to protecting the land. In the last year they were able to reach over 15million people with LNT education as well 60,000 people who were formally trained annually and if that wasn't enough they were also responsible for teaching over 235,000 children about LNT last year alone.

One of the most well known staples of the Leave No Trace Center education program is what is known as the Leave No Trace 7 Principles. These principles provide a framework of low-impact practices for anyone visiting the outdoors. Despite being rooted in natural settings, Leave No Trace principles have been created so that they can be applied anywhere—from the most desolate natural environments to the busiest urban epicenters or even your own backyard. Each principle covers a specific topic and provides detailed information for reducing negative impacts.
